Questions, answered

Everything worth knowing before 12 August 2026.

Are Helioclipse glasses safe to look at the Sun through?

Yes. They meet ISO 12312-2:2015, the international standard for filters used to look directly at the Sun. They block 100% of harmful ultraviolet and infrared, and more than 99.999% of visible light. Worn correctly, they are safe for direct solar observation during every phase of an eclipse when you follow normal eclipse safety rules for totality.

What certifications do Helioclipse glasses have?

Three that matter most. ISO 12312-2:2015 with test reports from ICS Laboratories, Inc. CE marking as Category II PPE under EU Regulation 2016/425 (certificate CE-PI-20251117-01-01-9A from CCQS Certification Services Ltd., Notified Body 2834). AAS approval from the American Astronomical Society, a reference point astronomers use to distinguish legitimate solar viewers from counterfeits. Certificates and full test reports are free to download on our documents page.

I read about an ISO 12312-1 paperwork issue with Helioclipse. Should I worry?

No. A small earlier production batch had documentation that referenced ISO 12312-1 (general sunglasses) instead of ISO 12312-2 (direct solar viewers). The glasses themselves always met the full ISO 12312-2 solar viewing performance. It was a labeling and paperwork error, not an optical safety defect. All current stock is correctly certified and labeled to ISO 12312-2:2015, with accredited test reports and an EU Declaration of Conformity on our documents page. If you bought before the fix and want batch confirmation, email sales@helioclipse.com with your order number.

What will I see on 12 August 2026?

It depends on where you are. Inside the path of totality across Iceland, northern Spain, northern Portugal, Greenland, and Arctic Russia, the Moon fully covers the Sun for up to about 2 minutes 18 seconds: a dramatic mid-afternoon darkening with the corona around a black disc. Across most of Europe and North Africa you will see a deep partial eclipse where a large fraction of the Sun is covered. Every partial phase still requires certified solar filters.

Do I need glasses if I am only seeing a partial eclipse?

Yes, absolutely. A partial eclipse is still the Sun. The only moment certified handheld viewers come off is during totality itself, and only if you are physically inside the narrow path of totality. Outside that path, keep your glasses on the entire time.

Can I take the glasses off during totality?

Yes, once the Moon fully covers the Sun and you are inside the path of totality. You can see the corona with the naked eye for a brief window. Put the glasses back on the moment you see a bright point of light return, the diamond ring stage, because normal sunlight is back.

How do I know if my location is inside the path of totality?

Open our interactive 3D eclipse map, enter your location, and read eclipse start, maximum coverage, and whether you are inside totality or a partial phase. If you are unsure, assume partial phases and keep your glasses on.

Can I use regular sunglasses, welding goggles, or laser eyewear instead?

No. Helioclipse glasses are for direct observation of the Sun only. Even very dark sunglasses transmit far too much light for solar viewing. Welding and laser eyewear use different filter specifications. For direct Sun outside the brief totality window on the centerline, use ISO 12312-2 solar viewers or shade 14 welding glass only, never improvised substitutes.

Can I use Helioclipse glasses with a telescope, binoculars, or a camera lens?

Never. Telescopes and binoculars concentrate sunlight. A focused beam can burn through a filter and damage your eyes almost instantly. Optical instruments need a dedicated solar filter on the front, sun-facing end. For phone photography, use the phone filter included in every Helioclipse pack.

Are Helioclipse glasses safe for children?

Yes, for any child old enough to follow the rule: keep them on while you look up. Younger children need adult supervision because peeking around the edge is the one thing the glasses cannot protect against. The included neck strap helps keep them on small heads.

How do I wear the glasses, and can I wear them over prescription glasses?

Wear them like regular glasses. Because the lenses block so much light, everything except the Sun will look very dark, which is normal. Only look at the Sun while wearing them. Glance, rest, and repeat. Brief glances are best, with a short break every 30 to 60 seconds as good practice. Frames are designed to fit comfortably over most prescription glasses, and the neck strap makes them easy to remove between looks.

How do I use the phone filter, and can I remove the glasses to frame a photo?

Hold the filter over your phone camera so it covers the lens module, point the phone at the Sun, and you should see a detailed solar disk instead of a blown-out blob. Keep your eclipse glasses on. Never look directly at the Sun, even for a moment, to line up a shot. Frame through the glasses, then lift the phone in front.

Which pack size should I buy, how fast is shipping, and do you ship internationally?

For one family or a small group, the 6-pack is a practical default. For a classroom, office, or viewing party, 12 or 25 packs work well. For larger gatherings, 50 or 100 packs scale cleanly. Retail packs ship free in two business days across the EU and North America when you order before the local afternoon cut-off. We ship worldwide: delivery time and cost are calculated at checkout from your address.

Can I return my order, and what if it arrives damaged?

Yes, within our standard return window, unused and in original packaging. Email info@helioclipse.com with a photo of the damage and your order number within seven days of delivery, and we will replace damaged units at no cost. Full legal terms are in our refund policy.

Do Helioclipse glasses expire, and how should I store them?

No mandatory shelf life: ISO 12312-2 removed the old three-year retirement rule in 2015. If lenses stay intact, with no scratches, tears, punctures, or separation from the frame, they remain safe. Before each use, hold them up to a bright indoor lamp and confirm you only see a very faint image of the light. Store flat, away from heat and moisture, ideally in the original sleeve. Properly stored pairs stay usable for the 2 August 2027 total eclipse and the 26 January 2028 annular eclipse.

Who makes Helioclipse, and where can I buy authentic stock?

Helioclipse is built by Molgha Inc., headquartered in Montreal. Molgha supplied more than ten million certified solar viewers for the April 2024 North American total eclipse to governments, schools, museums, and major retailers. Buy here on helioclipse.com or through our official Amazon brand stores in the EU, UK, and North America. If you see Helioclipse sold elsewhere, ask us first: counterfeit eclipse glasses are a real risk, and fakes can cause serious harm. A total solar eclipse is unforgettable. It is also one of the few moments when ignoring basic safety can damage your eyes in seconds. Check your glasses before every use, keep them on through every partial phase, enjoy naked-eye totality only on the centerline during totality, then put them back on the instant sunlight returns.
