2026 total solar eclipse

On August 12, 2026, the Moon’s umbra tracks across the North Atlantic and intersects Russia, Greenland, Iceland, Spain, and the Azores (Portugal). It is the first total solar eclipse over mainland Europe since 1999. about 15 million people live inside the path of totality, a small fraction of the world population. Outside the narrow umbral track, a partial eclipse is visible across Europe, northern Asia, northern and western Africa, much of North America, and parts of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic. Confirm your site with an authoritative map before travel; use ISO 12312-2 viewers whenever any part of the bright photosphere is visible.

Viewing & planning

Use ISO 12312-2 solar viewers for any direct view of the Sun during partial phases. Our 2026 eclipse planning guide covers path, weather strategy, and logistics; the ISO 12312-2 buyer’s guide explains how to choose certified filters. Path geometry and duration: NASA GSFC path tables.

Prepare with certified eclipse glasses

Order ISO 12312-2 solar viewers for partial phases everywhere along the path, and inspect filters before eclipse day.
